1928 REO SPEEDWAGON

Don brought the Speedwagon to us from his family's farm in the Manitoba Interlake district. A very unique piece. After doing research on the truck to locate some much needed body parts, we determined that the cab had been hand crafted using a 1926 Hudson car as a donor for the sheetmetal. |

The suicide doors, the cloth upholstery and the large back window gave it away. The original REO parts consisted of the grille, hood, cowl and fenders. The original frame had been welded and patched beyond salvage. |

The style is what appealed to Don. He wanted a larger cab and the plans were to make an extended cab version of the existing truck. After determining the extense of the rought and damage to the cab, it was decided to replace it with something suitable. |

While searching for aanother Hudson body we located a slighly newer car with the '30 Essex. Essex was a division of Hudson supplying slightly smaller and more affordable automobiles. The shape of the rear window is what sold us on the design. |

With the car body in the
shop next to the piece we were originally supplied with, measurements
were taken and cuts were made!

Next we channeled
the cab 6" and chopped the top an additional 2". With the
roof panel layed on top the overall height of the pickup is 60"
and still has plenty of legroom!

We next welding the roof filler in place and extended it forward into an integral visor. The edge of the visor was formed with 1/2" steel hydraulic line |
| We also built a recessed structure to accomodate a flush fit windshield. The cowl vents were also removed. A Vintage Air system will be installed under the dash. | ![]() |
